Early Phonics Games

I am a home educating mum of two, my son, is a very visual and physical learner, he remembers things so much better if there is something more than a written work sheet, or if he can physically engage in the learning. He also is a storyteller and loves it when the world around him is encompassed in the story too. Because of this I try to create learning experiences that fit with his learning style. I love using resources from The Wooden Play Den with him – here are a few of our most played ‘learning’ games.

Small Business Showcase

I had seen the beautiful cards that Alexia created and had received a pack myself which my daughter loved, and thought they would be a great addition to my range. I love to try out the toys on my own children first - they have pretty goof opinions! 

I went onto meet Alexia when she attended Autum Fair in 2021. It was great to meet, face to face the creator of the business in a world which is now so digital.

Winter Play

Winter can be such a magical time of year, frost, low sun shining through bare branches, cosy days warm inside. Hot Chocolates, games and the beginnings of the return of greenery and light. Equally, it can be super easy to get stuck in the dark, wet days lacking in inspiration – never ending rain, mud and dampness. There are some toys that I come back to every winter, and specific activities that I find I rely on to fill our days this time of year.

New Toys after Christmas

It can certainly be an overwhelming time after Christmas, an influx of new toys, finding appropriate storage solutions, and encouraging play as you get back into a routine as the new year slowly begins.

Christmas Craft Ideas

Christmas is a great time to get crafting. I love trying to make some decorations with the children. It is also a great activity for some calm and quiet time. 

I am going to be putting a few of these things in their Christmas Eve box - to try and encourage some quiet play on Christmas Eve. Wish me luck!
